Job summary

H&R Block in Calgary, Alberta is seeking a Junior User Experience Designer to help design and improve products for internal and external clients. You will work with experienced UX designers and collaborate with product managers, developers, and content writers to deliver user-centered solutions.

You will learn to facilitate design workshops, conduct usability tests, and contribute to the design system while operating in an agile environment.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in UX and/or HCI.
• 2–4 years of experience in user interface design, product design, or related design work.
• Portfolio demonstrating UX design process and visual design skills.

About the Role

Under the leadership of the Senior Manager, UX Design & Content Strategy, theJuniorUser Experience Designer will help design and improve products and services for internal and external clients.You'llwork alongside experienced UX designers who will provide coaching, feedback, and opportunities to develop your interaction design, and facilitation skills.In this position,you will collaborate witha variety of stakeholders includingproduct managers, business analysts, tax analysts, developers, quality assurance analysts, translators,and content writers.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Createwireflows, UI components, and annotated design handoffs for development.

• Participate in design reviews and usability testing.

• Contribute to andmaintainthe design system.

• Partner with senior designers, product managers, and developers to solve user problems.

• Use user insights and analytics to inform design decisions.

• Ability tooperatein a fast-paced, interactive,agile environment.

• Communicate design decisions with clear rationale and incorporate feedback from stakeholders and teammates.

• Work collaboratively and build relationships with our local and remote cross-functional teaminvolved in the software development process.

Required Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in User Experienceand/orHuman Computer Interaction (HCI),andhave an appreciation for the UX Design process.

• A portfoliodemonstratingyour UX design process and visual design skills. We are particularly interested in seeing:

• Well-organized and clearly labelled UI components drawn from a design system orcomponentlibrary.

• Wireflowsor user flows thatdocument how users move through a workflow or complete a task.

• We value evidence of problem solving over polished visuals. Show us how you understood the problem, explored solutions, collaborated with stakeholders, and arrived at a recommendation.

• An understanding of user-centered design principles and agile development.

• Great communicationskills, written and verbal. You speak up, ask questions, andarecoachable.You’reeager to improve your UX / UI skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of responsive design, visual design, typography,colour, and layout.

• Fluency in Englishisrequiredand fluency in Frenchis considered anasset.

  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS (nice to have)
