The UX Content Designer creates clear, helpful, and user-focused language for our digital products-like apps, websites, and tools-to guide users through their experience. They are always aiming to make interactions easy and intuitive. Working closely with designers, developers, and product teams, they use research and data to shape content decisions, ensuring everything aligns with the brand's voice and meets user needs. Their work blends writing, design thinking, and strategy to improve how people navigate and understand our digital experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content needs: Lead or join efforts to figure out what our business and users need. Gather ideas from workshops, meetings, research, and existing documents. Identify and document user personas, journeys, opportunities, pain points, wants, and needs.
  2. Content design: Create user-focused digital content solutions that fit with our business goals and provide a seamless user experience across all digital platforms. Work closely with UX design colleagues to develop user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and other UX deliverables.
  3. Microcopy/instructional writing: Write clear, concise copy for user interfaces that help users understand and complete tasks. This includes error messages, confirmation text, form labels, button labels, calls to action, modal window text, tooltips, help text, onscreen prompts, screen headings, menu options, FAQs, and instructional content.
  4. Communication & collaboration: Present your strategies and ideas to design and business teams. Engage with business colleagues to support content needs. Participate in Agile Scrum processes and lead the content portion of sprint demos.
  5. Content audits: Regularly check and analyze existing online content through audits, usage metrics, search term analysis, heatmaps, session recordings, and user surveys. Ensure content is well-structured and easy to find. Participate in usability testing to assess user needs and areas of confusion.
  6. Content optimization: Test and refine UI copy through usability testing and A/B or MVT experiments to improve user experience. Identify content gaps and work with relevant business areas to fill them. Review and adapt existing copy to meet web and mobile best practices, accessibility standards, and user needs.
  7. UX writing maturity: Help establish and share UX writing standards and content guidelines.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education: BA or MA in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or equivalent experience.
  • Work Experience: 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Tech-Savvy and Adaptable: Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and technologies. We value candidates who are intelligent and resourceful, capable of picking up new skills without extensive prior experience with specific tools.
  • Writing skills: Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with understanding of UX principles, user-centered design, UI writing best practices, and digital psychology. Knowledge of online accessibility requirements is also an asset.
  • Insurance Knowledge: Experience in the insurance industry is highly preferred. Candidates without prior insurance experience should be prepared for comprehensive training on our specific products and services.
  • Agile and Project Management: Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management practices is essential. Candidates should be able to manage projects efficiently and work collaboratively within Agile frameworks.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities to understand and interpret complex information. Experience with tools like Google Analytics is not mandatory but can be beneficial.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactive problem-solving skills to navigate challenges and seek solutions independently.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work well in a team environment, providing support and seeking assistance when needed.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, communicate effectively, manage expectations, resolve conflicts, influence and negotiate, and integrate feedback to ensure project success.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in English. Working knowledge of French is beneficial.
  • Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B). This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.
