About the Opportunity

Our TorontoJobs.ca Recruiting Division client is a well-established accounting practice located in North York providing personal and corporate tax and accounting services.

Due to continued growth and increasing U.S. tax client volumes, the firm is seeking an experienced U.S. Tax Manager to join its team on a full-time basis.

This position is based in Canada but will focus primarily on U.S. taxation. The successful candidate will be an experienced tax professional with strong knowledge of U.S. personal and business tax returns who can immediately contribute through technical review, staff support, workflow management, and client service.

This is primarily a review and technical oversight role rather than a high-volume preparation position. The U.S. Tax Manager will work closely with the firm's owner, tax preparers, and review staff to ensure work is accurate, compliant, and completed on time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review U.S. personal income tax returns, including Form 1040
  • Review U.S. corporate and business tax returns

  • Identify technical issues, errors, and potential tax planning opportunities
  • Provide technical guidance to tax preparers and junior reviewers
  • Research U.S. federal and state tax matters as required
  • Respond to U.S. tax-related client questions and inquiries
  • Assist with more complex U.S. personal and business tax matters
  • Support tax planning and compliance for U.S. individuals and businesses

  • Mentor and support junior tax staff
  • Help reduce partner workload by taking ownership of technical reviews and client matters
  • Support the continued growth of the firm's U.S. tax practice
Team Structure

The successful candidate will work closely with:

  • Firm Owner / Managing Partner
  • U.S. and Canadian tax preparers
  • Seasonal tax staff during busy periods

The position will primarily focus on technical review, problem solving, staff guidance, and managing U.S. tax work rather than completing high volumes of basic tax preparation.

Job Requirements:
Required
  • Strong professional experience in U.S. taxation
  • Public accounting experience working with U.S. tax returns
  • Experience reviewing U.S. personal income tax returns
  • Experience reviewing U.S. corporate and business tax returns

Preferred
  • CPA, U.S. CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), or equivalent professional experience
  • Previous Tax Manager, Tax Reviewer, or senior-level public accounting experience
  • Experience supervising or mentoring tax preparers
  • Experience with complex U.S. individual and business tax matters
  • Knowledge of U.S. state taxation
  • Experience working with U.S. clients while based in Canada

  • Free on-site parking
  • Stable and growing tax practice
  • Opportunity to work directly with the firm's owner and senior team
  • Opportunity to take ownership of the firm's U.S. tax review function
  • Long-term growth potential as the U.S. tax practice expands
Qualifications Summary

Candidates should have strong U.S. public accounting tax experience, particularly reviewing U.S. individual and business tax returns.

A CPA, U.S. CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), or similar professional designation would be an asset, but significant hands-on U.S. tax experience will also be considered.

Candidates must be based in Canada and able to work from the firm's North York office.

Why This Is a Great Opportunity

This is an opportunity for an experienced U.S. tax professional based in Canada to take on a senior, hands-on position within an established accounting practice.

The successful candidate will have meaningful responsibility for U.S. tax review, technical decision-making, staff development, and client service while working directly with the firm's senior leadership.
