Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking an innovative physician to join our team as a Medical Director (MD) for the Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) in Mission. The MD will foster a culture of patient and care-team safety and clinical effectiveness, with a focus on patient- and family-centered clinical system design. The successful candidate will lead by example, addressing site needs within the broader health delivery system and multiple service requirements. Flexibility to work partially on-site is available. This position reports to the Regional Medical Director (RMD) for Primary Care Integration.

Community: Mission

Situated on a coastal mountain slope overlooking the Fraser River valley, Mission is a rapidly growing rural community known for its natural beauty and cultural roots. It is historically significant as the site of Canada’s first train robbery and British Columbia’s first rail link to the United States.

Key Areas of Involvement
Effective Delivery of Clinical Services
  • Ensure clinic physicians deliver services appropriately within the UPCC remit.
Quality and Utilization Monitoring/Improvement
  • Engage physician members in multidisciplinary quality improvement and utilization management activities.
  • Involve Family Physicians in reviews and standards of medical practice.
  • Investigate complaints related to physician care, collaborating with the RMD as needed.
Administration
  • Attend UPCC Medical Directors meetings coordinated by the RMD.
  • Serve as a communication link between Fraser Health leadership and the clinic regarding objectives and issues.
  • Contribute to policies and guidelines on medical/clinical matters.
  • Promote health and wellness among department members and foster a respectful workplace.
  • Review physician resource needs with clinic management and regional bodies.
  • Assist in the recruitment of new physicians.
  • Mediate disputes involving clinic physicians.
Medical Legal Issues
  • Identify potential liability and legal issues, advising the RMD and Legal Counsel as necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Current licensure with CPSBC and CCFP, plus at least two years of healthcare leadership experience.
  • Additional management training and academic leadership experience are preferred.
  • Proven leadership in organizational change within primary care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of primary care clinic operations, staffing, budgeting, quality improvement, and service delivery.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills in leadership contexts.
Term

The appointment as UPCC Medical Director is for three years, renewable based on performance reviews.

Reimbursed upon receipt in accordance with Fraser Health’s policies.
