Contract Length/End Date (if applicable): 1-year with option to extend

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis to forecast land use and potential challenges to infrastructure development.
  • Conduct review of various department applications including permits, site plans, variance requests, and re-zonings.
  • Develop and implement plans, policies, and regulations for land use, specifically in the utility industry.
  • Work with government officials, developers, and community stakeholders to ensure that plans and policies are implemented in alignment with our client’s needs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing plans and policies and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate public participation in planning and development processes, including holding public meetings, preparing notification documents, and gathering feedback from residents and businesses.
  • Ensure that development projects comply with applicable regulations and guidelines, including zoning laws, environment regulations, and building codes.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as architects, engineers, and other various contractors, to ensure that the design of future projects is aligned with public policies.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate planning recommendations and decisions to stakeholders and the public.

Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Planner (RPP), or equivalent, professional certification.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in urban planning, geography, architecture, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of land use planning, urban design, and municipal policy and processes.
  • Experience in executing official plan amendments, and zoning appeals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, community members, and developers.
  • Familiarity with local, provincial, and federal regulations related to land use planning and development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Working Relationships

  • Regular collaboration with cross-functional teams across departments.
  • Frequent interaction with clients, legal teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal communication to guide discussions with various parties, ensuring all projects align with business objectives and legal mandates.
