Job Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the Principal, and in consultation with the Learning Resource Teacher (LRT) and classroom teacher, the Educational Assistant is responsible for supporting students with exceptional needs within the school. The role involves handling confidential information and requires flexibility and diversity in duties.
The responsibilities include supporting the instruction of individual and/or groups of students in academic or integrated classroom environments, overseeing special education students, and implementing programs related to behavior, communication, intellectual, or physical needs as required.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Applicants must possess a secondary school diploma and a two- or three-year Community College Diploma in fields such as Child & Youth Worker, Registered Early Childhood Educator, Behavioral Science Technician, Educational Assistant, Developmental Services Worker, Social Service Worker, Registered Nurse, Registered Nursing Assistant, or Registered Practical Nurse. Bachelor Degrees in Child Studies, Sociology, or Psychology are recognized. Behavior Management Systems (BMS) training/certification is an asset. Current RECE registration in good standing is required. Nursing diplomas must include proof of current certification. Relevant work experience is an asset.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted via email for a virtual interview via Microsoft Teams, typically conducted by two Principals or Vice Principals. Candidates should prepare to demonstrate their skills through examples from their experience.
Successful interviewees will be contacted for references. The process includes qualification review, interview, assessment, and reference checks. All offers are conditional on a satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
For references, UCDSB requires current and most recent direct supervisors, including Principals or Supervisors if currently employed in a school setting. Colleagues and personal references are not accepted.
