Job summary

Capco is seeking a Unix/Linux Developer in Canada to modernize legacy applications and scripts, build automation, and extend containerization across Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes, and AWS. You will collaborate with development teams to ensure reliable transitions to modern, maintainable environments.

You’ll be hands-on with scripting and automation, across Linux and Windows, and work on application components like JBoss, Apache Tomcat, Nginx and HAProxy to support modernization initiatives.

Qualifications

• 5–6 years of Unix/Linux development experience, including upgrading and refactoring legacy scripts as part of modernization.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerization, including deployment to OpenShift and Kubernetes clusters.
• Experience with AWS and DevOps practices to support development, deployment and modernization.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using Bash, PowerShell, Python and Groovy.

Modernize business-critical applications through Unix/Linux development, automation and containerization.

The Role

Capco is looking for a Unix/Linux Developer to support a major application modernization initiative focused on upgrading legacy applications, Unix scripts and their supporting technology.

This is a hands‑on development role where you’ll modernize and refactor legacy Unix scripts, build automation and help applications transition successfully into modern containerized environments. You’ll work across Unix/Linux, Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes and AWS, ensuring scripts and application components continue to function reliably as the underlying technology evolves.

You’ll work closely with development and technology teams to solve modernization challenges, improve automation and support the successful migration of established applications to more modern, maintainable environments.

What You’ll Do

• Upgrade, refactor and modernize legacy Unix scripts and associated application components to support wider application modernization.
• Develop and maintain automation using Bash, PowerShell, Python and Groovy, reducing repetitive operational tasks and improving delivery efficiency.
• Support the containerization and deployment of applications using Docker and Docker Swarm across OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) and Kubernetes environments.
• Work with AWS and DevOps tooling to support application builds, deployments and migrations into modern environments.
• Develop and troubleshoot solutions across Linux and Windows environments, working with application technologies including JBoss, Apache Tomcat, Nginx and HAProxy.

What We’re Looking For

• 5–6 years of Unix/Linux development experience, including experience upgrading and refactoring legacy Unix scripts as part of application modernization.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker and containerization, including application deployment to OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) and Kubernetes clusters.
• Experience working with AWS and DevOps practices to support application development, deployment and modernization.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using Bash, PowerShell, Python and Groovy.
• Experience working across Linux environments including RHEL, CentOS and Ubuntu, alongside MS Windows host environments.

Bonus Points For

• Experience supporting Java application modernization or migrations involving legacy Java 6/8 applications.
• Experience working with application servers and technologies including JBoss, Apache Tomcat, Nginx and HAProxy.
• Experience with Docker Swarm alongside Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience troubleshooting application dependencies and script-related issues during complex modernization or migration programmes.
• Experience supporting application development or modernization within financial services or other complex enterprise environments.

The salary range for this position is listed below. Additionally, this position may also be eligible to receive an annual discretionary/variable bonus payment.
