Students hired into Project Estimating will be given the opportunity to learn about the estimating practices around engineering, procurement and construction services to deliver our capital work program. Students will have exposure to planning budgets and execution activities for transmission line and transmission substation projects.

Your job duties may include:

  • Assist in developing project estimates and monitoring projects during the project planning and estimating phases under the direction of a Project Estimator.
  • Coordinate activities with service providers and stakeholders.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, specifications and presentations detailing project estimates.
  • Complete data analysis to support benchmarking studies.
  • Assist in developing and preparing processes, procedures or methods related to estimating.
  • Liaise with other internal work groups and divisions.
  • Assist in the development of Basis of Estimate (BoE) for estimates to ensure estimate quality and consistency.
  • Prepare project reports as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as required.

This job will provide you with the following professional development:

  • Communication skills, documentation skills, time management skills and analytical skills.
  • Practice the application of engineering knowledge with respect to protection, control, substation power systems and transmission line infrastructure.
  • Gain the knowledge necessary to develop project estimates and practice documentation of recording assumptions, risks, cash flow, project cost, variance analysis and comparator overview.
  • Gain in-depth knowledge of overall transmission station and lines design, construction methodology and project management planning.
  • Experience with the management processes used to design, procure and construct power systems for transmission lines and stations.
  • Experience in a corporate environment working both independently and within teams on common objectives.

Job Requirements:

  • Discipline: Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Academic Level: Second or Third year completed.
  • Other requirements:
    • Working knowledge of MS Excel is required.
    • G-Class driver’s license is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills complemented by organizational strengths and an ability to work both autonomously and as a team player.
  • A strong focus on customers and the need to be customer-focused.

Additional Job Conditions:

  • There will be a requirement for occasional travel within the province of Ontario. Overnight stays may be required.
