We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Casual Booking Clerk to support our team at Royal Columbian Hospital located in New Westminster, B.C.

New Westminster, situated on a hillside overlooking the Fraser River, is the oldest incorporated city in BC, once the provincial capital, and remains an urban hub of the Lower Mainland. Known as the Royal City, it began as a pioneer settlement, evolved into a Victorian city, and today boasts many heritage buildings.

Take this opportunity to:

  • Prepare, maintain, distribute, and revise the daily and weekly Operating Room (OR) schedules using a computerized system, under RN review.
  • Maintain patient and surgical data by entering information into the computer, reviewing booking forms, and filing related records.
  • Communicate with OR staff, medical offices, and hospital departments regarding surgical bookings and schedule changes; prepare statistical reports for the Ministry of Health.

Detailed Overview

Reporting to the Manager, the Unit Clerk/Operating Room Booking Clerk performs clerical duties related to patient care, including transcribing physician's orders, coordinating appointments, arranging tests, and maintaining surgical schedules using a computerized system. Maintains patient and surgical info, communicates with medical staff, and prepares reports for the Ministry of Health.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and process physician’s orders, follow up as needed.
  • Act as a communication link between hospitals and departments, handle inquiries, and manage test results and visitor information.
  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, tests, and maintain appointment diaries.
  • Review surgical booking packages for completeness.
  • Prepare and update OR schedules, assign patients, and adjust schedules as needed.
  • Coordinate with staff and departments regarding bookings and schedule changes.
  • Notify Bed Management of surgeries for bed allocation.
  • Input patient data, monitor surgical waitlists, and reschedule cancellations.
  • Assist in maintaining records, statistics, and waitlists.
  • Participate in safety and quality improvement activities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Grade 12, medical terminology, graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program, plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills And Abilities

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Physical ability to perform duties.
  • Keyboarding speed of 40 w.p.m.
  • Organizational skills and ability to operate related equipment.
  • Proficiency with computer software applications.
