Alberta Health Services is seeking a Unit Clerk to support the Medicine Program at Sturgeon Community Hospital. You will manage phones, greet visitors, and handle patient records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy in transcribing physician orders and scheduling tests.
The role requires strong communication, organization, and attention to detail, with 1-2 years of unit clerk experience preferred. This temporary full-time position operates days, evenings, and weekends within a 24-week rotation.
The Unit Clerk is responsible for managing the telephones, greeting and directing visitors, patients and allied health professionals, and for managing patient records and charts. The position is also responsible for relaying information related to admissions, transfers and discharge of patients, diagnostic tests, booking appointments and consults. The incumbent will transcribe and process doctors’ orders including medication orders, laboratory orders, diagnostic imaging orders, and treatment orders. They will also ensure an adequate level of supplies and equipment is available on the unit for use by the inter-professional team.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
