Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY — The role provides service to customers, sorts incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Location: This position is posted for Saskatoon South, 503 Nelson Road, Saskatoon, SK S7S 1P4.

Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $15.00 per hour. Placement in the salary range will be based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills and qualifications relevant to the role. Responsibilities
  • Operations: Greet and interact with customers/donors in a positive, friendly, and courteous manner; contribute to meeting store sales targets; provide efficient courteous customer service; respond to customer inquiries; maintain knowledge of product pricing and featured sale items; protect the integrity of donated items; maintain store opening and closing procedures; process customer transactions (cash and debit) with minimal voids, overages, or shortages; adhere to policy regarding cheques, credit cards, refunds, voids, and holds; process raw materials by loading/unloading, sorting, packing, hanging, pricing, and storing donations; respond to customer enquiries by phone/in person; monitor store security; assist with store layout and displays to attract customers; manage inventory and replenish on the sales floor; assist donors with contributions and unload donations; ensure proper sorting, processing, and pricing; perform other duties as required.
  • Health and Safety: Contribute to safety of staff and customers (e.g., snow removal, clear fire exits, clean spills, remove obstacles); maintain an attractive, organized, and safe store environment; restock shelves, clean, sweep, dust, and mop as necessary; rotate cleaning tasks (lunchroom, washroom, common areas); comply with OH&S Act and Salvation Army health and safety policies; perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Critical Relationship Management
  • Clarification of Information; routine interactions; internal: Store Manager, Corps Officer(s), volunteers, staff; external: guests, vendors.
Managerial/Technical Responsibilities
  • Reports directly to the Store Manager; Direct reports: None.
Financial and Material Management
  • Moderate material responsibilities; uses/maintains organizational assets per guidelines; does not process financial transactions; no budget responsibilities.
Working Conditions
  • Permanent full-time position; schedule may vary; may include weekdays and/or Saturdays.
  • Ability to stand for long periods; frequent bending, twisting, crouching, reaching; ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Follow universal precautions and wear gloves when working with unknown contents.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
  • Willingness to support the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army; comply with OH&S Act and health and safety policies; alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Education: Completion of some high school; alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience/Knowledge: Months of processing or distribution of goods or customer service; knowledge of lifting guidelines; cash handling experience; experience with cash registers and related processes; product brand awareness is an asset; experience in a computerized environment.
  • Skills and Capabilities: Attention to detail; self-motivated and disciplined; ability to work independently and as part of a team; good interpersonal and oral communication skills; physically capable of lifting/carrying up to 29 lbs frequently.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks satisfactorily to The Salvation Army.
