We are seeking an Ocean Marine Technical Underwriting Assistant to join our team in the Toronto, Ontario office. This position will support our Canadian Domestic platform.

The Technical Underwriting Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting our underwriters in the assessment and management of Ocean Marine insurance policies. This position requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect all relevant information for new and renewal business.
  • Set up of underwriting file: Assist underwriters in the review and analysis of Ocean Marine insurance applications, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Assist in evaluating and assessing risks by gathering and verifying necessary information, such as financials and loss history.
  • Data Entry: Accurately enter policy information into the company's database and maintain electronic records.
  • Communication: Collaborate with brokers, agents, and clients to obtain required documentation and address inquiries related to underwriting processes.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain underwriting documents, reports, and correspondence as required. Prepare and issue insurance policies, quotes, endorsements, binders and certificates to clients and brokers.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all underwriting activities comply with company guidelines, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reporting: Assist in the preparation of underwriting reports and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Assist with booking of premiums, invoicing and payment reminders.
  • Partner with underwriters to ensure all underwriting files and documents are saved in accordance with companies policies and company software (image-right/share drive).
  • Provide back up to other Technical Underwriting Assistants when needed.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and ethical standards in all underwriting practices.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus.
  • Prior experience in the insurance industry is preferred including: knowledge of Marine insurance products, coverages, underwriting guidelines, and risk assessment techniques.
  • Proficiency in using software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with team members and external partners.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Knowledge of Canadian insurance regulations and industry standards is a plus.
