Description

An established national insurer is seeking an experienced and people-focused leader to join their Western Canada Personal Lines underwriting team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a results-oriented professional who is passionate about underwriting excellence, coaching and developing talent, and delivering a top-tier broker experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead, mentor, and support a team of Personal Lines underwriters across multiple locations in Alberta.

Drive a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.

Ensure underwriting practices align with risk appetite, profitability targets, and service standards.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve workflow efficiencies and support broader business initiatives.

Monitor performance metrics and use data insights to enhance decision-making and operational outcomes.

Participate in talent management activities including recruitment, performance reviews, and team development planning.

Provide clear communication of underwriting direction, procedural updates, and team expectations.

Occasional travel within Canada for team engagement and planning purposes.

Qualifications:

Minimum 7 years of Personal Lines underwriting experience; exposure to specialty products is a bonus.

Prior experience managing or coaching underwriting teams is required.

Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and operational workflows.

Post-secondary education and/or CIP designation (or working toward it) preferred.

Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment with both performance and service KPIs.

Preference for candidates based in Calgary; strong candidates from Edmonton may be considered.

Client is open to strong broker profiles.
