Zurich Canada is seeking an Underwriting Specialist in Construction to analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on highly complex assignments, ensuring high-quality service to customers.

This is a hybrid opportunity.

What you will do :

1. Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
2. Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
3. Qualify accounts to meet the organization’s appetite, balanced with sound business opportunities.
4. Make agent/broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
5. Negotiate Terms & Conditions and close deals.
6. Cross-sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.
7. Participate in Sales Team meetings related to assigned brokers and/or territory.
8. Engage proactively in the target account process, managing a qualified list of opportunities 90 to 120 days prior to effective date.
9. Update required systems with details of broker/client visits and account status within the specified time frame.
10. Serve as a key contact for assigned target accounts.
11. Develop strong broker and client networks related to industries underwritten by the Business Unit.
12. Calculate Target Price accurately using underwriting tools.
13. Measure exposure and analyze risk.
14. Initiate product development ideas.
15. Assist in training and developing staff.
16. Provide expertise on coverage issues with claims programs and guidelines.
17. Contribute to the development of underwriting manuals, programs, and guidelines.
18. Approve or place facultative purchases.
19. Develop and lead marketing presentations for new and current agents/brokers.
20. Promote the organization’s products and services to increase penetration within agency networks.
21. Ensure successful project completion by maintaining ongoing communication with business unit sponsors during implementation of major projects.
22. Diagnose and develop recommendations to solve unique business unit and customer problems.
23. Lead complex technical or long-term (over 6 months) business projects to implement new or altered systems, programs, or products.
24. Investigate, recommend, and implement leading-edge technical solutions that meet customer needs.

Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table :

Required :

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working under time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Business writing and presentation skills in both French and English.

Preferred :

• 6+ years experience in Construction Underwriting.
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Microsoft Office experience.

Proficiency in English is required for communication with stakeholders outside Quebec.

Compensation varies based on factors like location, role, skills, and experience. The starting salary range for this position is $100,000 - $145,000.
