Key Objective

As a vital member of the environmental risk underwriting team, you will be responsible for underwriting a diverse portfolio of environmental risks to support the team’s growth, retention, rate, and profit objectives while maintaining strong broker relationships.

Major Responsibilities

• Underwrite all lines of environmental business including:
• Premises Pollution Liability (industrial, commercial, institutional, public sector)
• Contractors Pollution Liability (operations and project-specific)
• Specialty casualty (premises pollution/general liability combined)
• Respond to inquiries and assist with the management of the TankSafe portfolio

Role Details

• Underwrite environmental risk business
• Conduct risk selection, coverage negotiation, pricing, and rate adequacy assessments for new and renewal business
• Focus on customer retention and relationship management
• Market across Ontario and support Western & Eastern Branch offices and underwriters
• Cross-sell with other Commercial Insurance and Major Risk lines such as automobile, excess casualty, general liability, property, and financial lines
• Handle individual risk inquiries and correspondence from brokers, making appropriate decisions
• Participate in projects to improve the business and develop personal skills

Qualifications

• 1-5 years of experience in General Liability (Construction), Environmental insurance, or environmental consulting
• Casualty underwriting experience is an asset
• Post-secondary degree in Science, Technology, Mathematics, Engineering, Environmental Studies, or related fields is preferred
• CIP/CRM designation or courses completed are a plus
• Strong communication skills
• Innovative and creative mindset to attract and retain customers
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Comfort with deadline-driven environments
• Analytical, decision-making, and risk underwriting skills
