Work Arrangements:

You will work from your home office 100% of the time. You may be required to be in-person at our office in Waterloo, ON, or another assigned location within the Waterloo Region, on an as-needed basis. Sales-related roles may require travel based on the assignment.

The Opportunity:

Equitable is looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our Individual Insurance team! The Senior Underwriter plays a key role in risk assessment for both life and critical illness products. This position is critical to Equitable's success and offers a great opportunity to work at one of Waterloo Region’s Top Employers while developing skills for the future.

What you will be doing:

• Apply strong and holistic underwriting expertise across all areas, including medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors.
• Consistently deliver high-quality work.
• Manage your daily workload independently to ensure service standards are met.
• Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, consumer regulation, and reinsurance treaties related to privacy, disclosure, and risk classification.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting processes and procedures.
• Mentor other underwriters, sharing guidance and expertise.

What you will bring:

• Superior technical knowledge in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting.
• Adaptability to a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong reinsurance relationships and negotiation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proactive and service-oriented relationship skills.
• At least 3 years of professional experience as a Life and Critical Illness Underwriter.
• FLMI / FALU designation or current pursuit of it.
• Commitment to ongoing learning to stay current with medical knowledge and industry trends.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
