Position Details

Position Title: Underwriter, Intermediate
Reports To: Manager, Underwriting
Department: Individual Underwriting
Term: Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements: Remote work from your home office. Occasional in-person presence at our Waterloo, ON office or other locations within Waterloo Region may be required. Travel may be necessary for sales roles.

The Opportunity

Equitable is growing! We are looking for Underwriters to join our Individual Insurance team. The Intermediate Underwriter plays a key role in risk assessment for life and critical illness products. Responsibilities

1. Apply comprehensive underwriting expertise across medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors.
2. Ensure high-quality work consistently.
3. Manage daily work volumes independently to meet service standards.
4. Provide a first-class client experience.
5. Adhere to legislative requirements, consumer regulations, and reinsurance treaties related to privacy, disclosure, and risk classification.
6. Contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting processes and procedures.

Qualifications

• Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
• Strong technical knowledge in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting.
• Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong reinsurance relationships and negotiation skills.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proactive, service-oriented relationship skills.
