About The Role

As an Underwriter in our Commercial Lines department, your work will have a big impact by networking and building relationships with brokers and growing a profitable book of business. People will count on you to use your customer service and sales skills to make good business decisions while analyzing and selecting risks in property and/or liability insurance. This is a full-time hybrid position requiring a minimum of 2 days per week in the Vancouver or Victoria office.

What You'll Do Here

• Assess, evaluate, and negotiate on moderate to complex risks.
• Apply effective pricing and underwriting strategies according to company guidelines and your authority limits.
• Quote, negotiate, sell, and approve new business, renewals, and endorsements within your authority to develop and retain profitable business.
• Participate in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events to develop broker relationships.
• Arrange reinsurance when required.
• Respond to inquiries, develop, and monitor broker relationships through visits, discussions, and correspondence.
• Use the computer system for policy inquiries, electronic filing, underwriting, and rating transactions.
• Recommend improvements to increase department efficiency.
• Foster cooperative broker relationships to identify and develop sales opportunities.
• Some travel may be required.
  
  

What You Bring To The Table

• Minimum of 2 years of underwriting assistant experience.
• Commercial Lines experience is a strong asset.
• Strong analytical and customer service skills.
• Initiative and ability to work under pressure.
• Negotiation skills and business acumen.
• Ability to develop and maintain excellent broker relationships.
• College diploma or university degree, or equivalent experience and education.
• Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or working towards it.
• No Canadian work experience required, but must be eligible to work in Canada.
  
  

Salary ranges from $51,500 to $77,300, based on experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity.
