Job summary

Western Financial Group is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter for an eight-month term in Victoria, BC. The role combines risk assessment, policy interpretation, and client communication, with hybrid work arrangements for local staff and remote licensing options for non-Victoria candidates.

The ideal candidate holds a General Insurance Level 2 license (CIP or CAIB preferred) and brings underwriting experience along with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

• General Insurance Level 2 License required, CIP or CAIB preferred.
• 1 year Underwriting experience is an asset.
• Professional communication etiquette, both written and verbal.
• Adept in retrieving customer data efficiently.
• Involvement in industry related associations and your community.

Responsibilities

• Gather and assess risk information to determine eligibility on risk for all general insurance
• Assist in the development of new programs and maintain current programs
• Communicate with clients regarding new policy issuance, changes, renewals and cancellations
• Advise, interpret, and validate coverage based on policy terms
• Issue policy changes, renewals, and cancellations
• Support internal departments and branches with policy interpretation and technical advice
• Prepare and submit monthly reports to Insurers
• Process policy changes, renewals and cancellations
• Assist with industry market research to ensure premiums and coverage are competitive

Here Is What a Typical Day Looks Like

• Gather and assess risk information to determine eligibility on risk for all general insurance


• Assist in the development of new programs and maintain current programs

• Hours: 37.5 hours/week - term position for 8 months


• Location: Hybrid if located in Victoria, BC. Remote (with correct licensing) if located outside of Victoria


• Salary range: $60,000 - $75,000
