Our client in the Financial Services industry is looking for a perm Residential Mortgage Underwriter to join their team in Toronto. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in B lending and residential underwriting, or a strong background in mortgage fulfillment, and is eager to contribute to a dynamic and fast-paced lending environment.
This is a hybrid role (in office 3 days a week) in downtown Toronto. This role offers 3 weeks vacation, a bonus structure and a full benefits package.
Roles and Responsibilities
Review and assess residential mortgage applications to ensure compliance with internal guidelines and lending policies
Analyze credit, income, property, and other risk factors to determine borrower eligibility
Ensure all required documentation is complete, accurate, and meets regulatory and company standards
Collaborate with mortgage brokers, business development managers, and internal teams to obtain necessary information and resolve issues efficiently
Communicate underwriting decisions and conditions clearly and professionally
Maintain strong knowledge of B lending policies, industry regulations, and real estate market trends
Contribute to ongoing process improvements within the underwriting and funding cycle
Meet service-level agreements (SLAs) and turn-around times while maintaining quality and risk standards
Qualifications and Skills
3+ years of experience as a Residential Mortgage Underwriter, preferably within a B lender environment or strong experience in mortgage fulfillment with a deep understanding of underwriting principles
Familiarity with alternative lending guidelines, credit adjudication, and risk assessment
Proficiency with mortgage software platforms and underwriting tools
Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and decision-making abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to work independently in a hybrid setting, with 3 days per week required in-office in Toronto
