Job summary

Qualifications

  • A valid Ontario Electrical License (309A) is required.
  • Basic Underground and Surface Common Core or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with 13.8 kV, 4160V, 600V systems.
  • Experience with mine hoisting plants, MCCs, soft starters, VFDs, PLCs, and Kone Cranes is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with SAP for maintenance work orders or willingness to learn.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and analytical skills with safety focus.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork; able to work independently in remote environments.
  • Physically capable to work underground, in confined spaces, and at heights; lift >50 lbs.
  • Willingness to rotate day/night shift schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems across underground and surface operations.
  • Adhere to preventive maintenance plans to ensure reliability.
  • Perform high-voltage switching, testing, isolation, and cable terminations (13.8 kV).
  • Troubleshoot control systems, including VFDs, soft starters, PLCs, and networks.
  • Conduct operational checks to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Identify, organize, and secure materials, tools, and services.
  • Report hazards and take corrective action where possible.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and communicate hazards or improvements.
  • Support mill and underground operations to achieve production targets.

Your new role

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Journeyman Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical infrastructure throughout the site, including both underground and surface operations. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant electrical systems supporting production and maintenance across the mill, crushing, hoisting, underground, and process areas. The incumbent will work collaboratively with multiple departments to minimize downtime, ensure reliability, and promote a strong safety culture.

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, components, and infrastructure across both underground and surface operations.
  • Adhere to preventive maintenance plans to ensure equipment reliability and resource availability.
  • Perform high-voltage switching, testing, isolation, and cable terminations (including 13.8 kV splices and stress cone applications) following safe work procedures.
  • Troubleshoot control systems, including VFDs, soft starters, PLCs, and associated communication networks.
  • Conduct operational checks and inspections to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Identify, organize, and secure materials, tools, and services to support planned and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, and deficiencies; take immediate corrective action where possible.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and communicate potential hazards or process improvement opportunities.
  • Support mill and underground operations to achieve production targets by responding promptly to equipment failures.
What you'll need to succeed
  • A valid Electrical License in the Province of Ontario (Construction & Maintenance 309A) required.
  • Basic Underground and Surface Common Core required or ability to obtain.
  • Demonstrated experience with 13.8 kV, 4160V, 600V systems, including installation and repair.
  • Experience working with mine hoisting plants, Motor Control Centres, Benshaw soft starters, Yaskawa, VFD’s, GE RX3I PLC’s, and Kone Cranes an asset.
  • Strong understanding of high-voltage industrial systems and electrical distribution.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with SAP for maintenance work orders or willingness to learn.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and analytical skills with attention to safety and detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently in remote or confined environments.
  • Physical capability to work in all environments, including underground, confined spaces, and at heights, while lifting and handling equipment over 50 lbs.
  • Adaptability to challenging conditions, including temperature extremes, noise, and environmental factors.
  • Willingness and ability to work rotating day/night shift schedules
