Job summary

Hemlo Mining Corp. is seeking an experienced mining professional to support underground drilling, blasting, QA/QC, and continuous improvement initiatives at the Hemlo Mine near Marathon, Ontario.

You will work with Engineering and Operations teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. The role requires underground experience, strong analytical skills, and familiarity with mining CAD/CAM tools; relocation and housing assistance are provided along with comprehensive benefits and

Qualifications

  • Post‑secondary education in Mining Engineering, Mine Technology, Surveying, or a related field.
  • Previous underground mining experience required.
  • Experience with underground drilling and blasting is an asset.
  • Operational underground mining experience is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience with Deswik, AutoCAD, or CAD‑based software is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work in a team.
  • Ability to work independently underground with minimal supervision.
  • Physically capable of underground fieldwork (lifting up to 50 lbs).
  • Valid Class G driver’s license.
  • Blasting certification or willingness to obtain is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-drilling, drilling, and loading QA/QC activities to ensure compliance with mine plans and standards.
  • Complete borehole surveys, hole pickups, and field verification activities.
  • Monitor underground drilling and blasting activities and provide real-time feedback to operations and contractor crews.
  • Conduct fragmentation analysis and assist with improving blasting performance and reducing oversize.
  • Perform vibration monitoring and analyze blasting performance data.
  • Assist with explosive quality control activities including density testing and loading verification.
  • Track drilling and blasting performance metrics and maintain QA/QC databases and reporting systems.
  • Work with Engineering and Operations teams on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with testing and implementing new blasting products, technologies, and procedures.
  • Conduct underground inspections and field reviews to support safe operations.
  • Support compliance with safety standards and applicable legislation.
  • Assist with special projects and operational improvement initiatives as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your new role

What you’ll need to succeed
  • Post‑secondary education in Mining Engineering, Mine Technology, Surveying, or a related field.
  • Previous underground mining experience required.
  • Experience with underground drilling and blasting activities considered a strong asset.
  • Operational underground mining experience considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience with Deswik, AutoCAD, or other mine planning and CAD‑based software considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently underground with minimal supervision.
  • Motivated self‑starter with strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Physically capable of performing underground fieldwork, including walking steep grades and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license required.
  • Blasting certification or willingness to obtain certification considered an asset.
What you’ll get in return
  • Base salary range from $80,000 to $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
