Position Overview

The Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position offers nursing students an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills towards competency in the practice of Registered Nurses (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPN). The UNE is an unregulated team member providing patient-centered care under supervision.

The specific nursing activities and supervision level are determined by legislation, standards, employer policies, educational background, practice setting, patient complexity, risk, and UNE competency. The RN or RPN at the point of care is responsible for assigning patient care tasks reasonably and prudently.

The UNE is accountable for safe nursing care aligned with their education and competencies, and must seek guidance when needed. The UNE's clinical placement time as a student is excluded from employment in that setting.

*Patient refers to any individual receiving health care services, inclusive of residents, clients, and outpatients.
