Your opportunity:

The Department of Economics ranks among the top economics departments internationally and is ranked number one in Canada. Nearly 70 per cent of all students take at least one course in economics during their undergraduate studies and our faculty is committed to educating and inspiring them all. Teaching and research in our department span a wide range of fields including theory, applied data analysis and econometric methodology. Located in the downtown core of Canada’s largest city, our department is immersed in a rich environment of rapidly expanding business and financial capital.

Under general direction of the Undergraduate Administrator and reporting to the Associate Chair Undergraduate Studies, this position provides administrative support to the Undergraduate Program Offices (BA and BSc, and BCom).

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Providing detailed information to students on program and/or course requirements
  2. Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  3. Disseminating program and/or service information
  4. Coordinating program schedules with stakeholders
  5. Editing content for brochures, newsletters, websites and/or handbooks
  6. Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  7. Liaising with stakeholders to coordinate space and resource requirements
  8. Updating and maintaining records

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum two years of related work in a university setting, providing front-line administrative support to academic programs, and responding to undergraduate students inquiries.
  3. Experience responding to student and staff inquiries on a variety of academic matters, and redirecting where appropriate.
  4. Experience interpreting and applying university policies and procedures (e.g. Code of Student Conduct; FAS Rules and Regulations; Academic Calendar)
  5. Demonstrated experience coordinating course and exam schedules
  6. Experience updating and maintaining databases and websites
  7. Experience coordinating events and program logistics
  8. Excellent computer skills. Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive and SharePoint), experience with ROSI, ROSI Express, Quercus, Course Information System (CIS), eMarks, Crowdmark and Degree Explorer, or similar student-based platforms is essential
  9. Experience providing general administrative skills such as maintaining records, disseminating information, scheduling appointments, and taking meeting minutes
  10. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  11. Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task.
  12. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and faculty.
  13. Ability to work as part of a team
  14. Demonstrated ability to organize work and successfully meet deadlines with competing priorities and interruptions
  15. Excellent customer service skills

Assets (Nonessential):

  1. Familiarity with Faculty of Arts and Sciences policies and programs considered a strong asset
