Job summary

Sonele is seeking an Ultrasound Transducer R&D Engineer in Canada to design, simulate, prototype, and characterize advanced ultrasound transducers. You will work across acoustic, electrical, and mechanical domains, aligning with process engineering and electronics teams to drive production transfer.

The role requires hands-on prototype builds, experience with FEM tools like OnScale/COMSOL/ANSYS/PZFlex, and strong data analysis skills in MATLAB or Python.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in ultrasound transducer R&D (imaging, therapy, or NDT).
• Proficiency with FEM/acoustic simulation tools (OnScale, COMSOL, ANSYS/PZFlex) and data analysis in MATLAB/Python.
• Hands-on experience with prototype builds, acoustic lab equipment, and transducer testing/characterization.
• Knowledge of piezoelectric materials, matching/backing materials, adhesives, and packaging.

Responsibilities

• Own acoustic/mechanical/electrical design of transducers and optimize stacks to meet performance targets.
• Perform FEM/acoustic simulations and correlate models with experimental data.
• Plan and execute prototype builds; conduct characterization and document results.
• Define design inputs/outputs, specs, and test methods; contribute to verification/validation and ISO 13485 documentation.
• Collaborate with process/manufacturing on fixturing, tolerances, and DFM; support transfer to pilot/production.
• Evaluate materials and novel fabrication techniques; contribute to IP strategy and roadmaps.
