Overview

Summary: Performs diagnostic ultrasound exams for evaluation and treatment by attending provider. Activities are performed according to education, training, facility policies, procedures, and professional standards. Takes call as required. Performs and is credentialed in one (1) Sonography modality at initial hire and (0) additional secondary modality within the imaging department.

Other information:

  • Associates Degree in related health science or graduate of an accredited program preferred.
  • Competence in the specialty area(s) to be performed.
  • New Mexico Sonography License required.
  • Sonographer certification by ARDMS, ARRT, and/or CCI required.
  • Initial qualified modality: Diagnostic Sonography (Abdomen, OB/GYN, Breast, Pediatric), Vascular Sonography (RVT, RVS, ARRT VS), Cardiac Sonography (AE, PE).
  • Current BLS required.

Education: Essential: Associate Degree

Specialization: Essential: Radiologic Sciences

Credentials: Essential: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, NM Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Registered Cardiovascular Inv Spec, Rad Tech-Radiography

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment following infection control, sterilization, and safety protocols.
  • Ensure patient safety during sonographic exams.
  • Review patient history and clinical information.
  • Verify completeness and relevance of exam orders.
  • Evaluate contraindications, patient preparation, and patient cooperation.
  • Communicate appropriately with patients.
  • Use proper positioning, equipment adjustment, and ergonomic techniques.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and perform diagnostic exams as ordered.
  • Apply professional judgment and ethical standards to perform procedures safely.
  • Capture accurate images of anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions.
  • Refer specific questions to healthcare providers as authorized.
  • Acquire additional imaging if needed for diagnosis.
  • Identify and document limitations of examinations.
  • Review images, synthesize results, and prepare preliminary findings.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards.
  • Provide services within scope of practice.
  • Assist with daily operations as appropriate.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement measures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
