Position Title: Type 2 Wildfire Crew Member / Forestry Worker

Department: Wildfire / Fuel Management - Emergency Preparedness Program

Terms: Full-Time, Temporary until March 15, 2026, with the possibility of extension

Purpose of Position:

The position provides safe, efficient, and professional wildland fire suppression, wildfire mitigation, and preparedness operations under the supervision of the Type 2 Wildfire Crew Leader.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain individual and crew safety and equipment readiness
  • Ensure training certifications are current
  • Gather critical information for daily assignments
  • Work collaboratively with BCWS personnel, contract crews, and community partners
  • Participate in fuel management, wildfire mitigation projects, and other department activities
  • Engage in emergency prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities
  • Participate in community education and awareness events on wildfire prevention and response
  • Be available for wildfire response from May to September, with limited personal leave
  • Maintain administrative records such as training and timesheets
  • Respond quickly and effectively to wildfire incidents following BCWS standards
  • Follow safety policies and incident command protocols

Certifications:

  • WorkSafe recognized Basic First Aid Certificate and Transportation Endorsement
  • Valid BC Class 7 (N) driver’s license; willingness to obtain Class 5 license
  • S-100 Basic Fire Suppression and Safety or equivalent
  • ICS 100 Incident Command System
  • S-211 Fire Environment
  • S-212 Fire Line Communications or Restricted Radio Operators License
  • S-213 Use of Bulldozers and Heavy Equipment
  • WHMIS & TDG Certification

Experience:

Preferred but not required:

  • Band Member of TteS meeting qualifications
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Post-secondary forestry or resource management education
  • Advanced First Aid or EMR training
  • High fitness level
  • Forestry or resource-based work experience
  • Outdoor and wilderness experience
  • Additional certifications such as S-230, S-241, Power Saw, Danger Tree, or Faller Certificates

Supervision or Training Duties:

  • Participate in training courses and maintain certifications

Special Requirements:

  • Minimum age 18
  • Complete annual health screening
  • Pass fitness tests for wildfire response
  • Ability to travel and work in high-stress environments
  • Willingness to work overtime and standby

Hours of Work: Normal day shifts of 7 hours; other shifts possible.

Pay Grade: Starting at $25.98 - $30.06, depending on education and experience.
