Job description

Job Title: Turnaround Planner
Location: Calgary, AB
Contract Length: 6 months
Schedule: Mon-Fri, 40 hours/week – individuals will be required to be on site during Turnarounds, and occasional site visits as required

Job Purpose/Summary:
The Turnaround Planner will provide Turnaround Coordinator support services in the areas of turnaround planning/scheduling. Collaborates with operations and other stakeholders on the development and review of work packages, schedules, and resources. Develops and implements project controls and monitoring procedures to ensure the achievement of project scope and schedule objectives. Collaborate with operations control (finance) to support cost tracking

Job Responsibilities:
Provide input to the development of turnaround organization and staffing plan, Turnaround Execution Plan, training plans and others as defined by the Turnaround Manager.
Development of turnaround budgets for all maintenance and project activity occurring during the turnaround preparation and execution window.
Ensure work scope is fully defined, that there is enough information to allow for accurate Planning and to facilitate further work scope definition as appropriate.
Document and implement a planning standard that defines all assumptions and provides a common base for all planners. Define field productivity levels to be used as the basis for all planning. Productivity basis should include all predictable nonproductive time events, such as safety meetings, work permitting, lunch, breaks and logistical implications.
Assure direct work hour estimate and task duration bases are justifiable by reviewing individual job plans as appropriate.
Develop planning progress metrics and steward progress weekly to Turnaround Manager.
Identify specialty equipment/tools/lifting requirements and long lead delivery items requiring early procurement.
Assure planning team is adequately interfacing with all required disciplines such as other discipline planners, safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental coordinators, equipment inspectors, reliability engineers, operations, maintenance, and engineering.
Ensure scheduling software is adequately configured and coding structures properly uphold WBS requirements.
Provide oversight into the development of a fully integrated execution schedule, including all resources, activity durations and responsibilities with inter and intra job logic.
Define and lead the implementation of a comprehensive execution schedule review and optimization process that results in the safest, most efficient execution schedule.
Issue the turnaround Planned Job Packages (PJPs).
Responsible to support the locked down schedule baseline prior to execution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:

  • Relevant Educational background (Engineering Degree, Journeyperson Trades, etc.)
  • 10+ years of experience supporting turnaround/shutdown events in a Planning role
  • Strong user of Microsoft Project/Primavera.
  • Familiarity in project management software, cost estimation tools, and scheduling software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of handling several assignments, managing a diverse range of stakeholders/contractors, and prioritize demands and workload are key competencies.
