Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer registered with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • More than 2 years of experience in stress calculation and finite element analysis.
  • Interest for technical work and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Summary of the role

  • Collaborate with hydraulic design engineers, designers and project teams in the development of turbine designs within technical specifications and cost optimization requirements over project cycles;
  • Execute mechanical analysis (stress and strains) using analytical methods and engineering software;
  • Use building codes, internal design standards et engineering knowledge for turbine component dimensioning and to determine analyses boundary conditions and loads;
  • Elaborate technical specification and engineering instructions within internal design protocols and industry requirements;
  • When necessary, use and develop techniques such as finite element analysis, analysis of vibrations, fatigue analysis, fracture mechanics, etc.;
  • Under the supervision of a technical supervisor, prepare specialized technical reports and advise on the mechanical behaviour of various components;
  • Participate in development and maintenance of design rules and tools;
  • Provide technical support for manufacturing and installation of hydraulic turbines;
  • Participate to problem solving, root cause analysis and design review;
  • Define tools and approach to be used when developing practical and innovative solutions to technical problems.

  • Professional Engineer registered with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • More than 2 years of experience in stress calculation and finite element analysis
  • Interest for technical work, engineering solution research and continuous improvement;
  • High ability in written and oral interpersonal communications and for team work;
  • Bilingual (French, English);
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Available for occasional displacement within Canada or worldwide.

Assets:

  • Master degree in sciences, mechanical engineering;
  • Knowledge about hydroelectric turbines and their components;
  • Experience in mechanical design, 3D modelling (Siemens NX, Catia, Solidworks, etc.);
  • Site work experience;
  • Studies or experience in advanced finite element analysis (dynamic, non-linear, etc.) and result validation;
  • Experience in mechanical design and rehabilitation for welded components for heavy and/or rotating industry
  • Knowledge of programming languages: VBA, Python and/or Ansys Mechanical APDL.
