Job description

The Director of Trade and Working Capital Sales is a strategic professional responsible for managing and expanding Citi's existing book of business in Canada, as well as originating new client opportunities. This role oversees multiple teams through subordinate managers and requires an in-depth understanding of how their sub-function contributes to overall business objectives. A solid knowledge of the industry, competitors' products, and services is essential to meet commercial goals. The candidate must have a thorough understanding of the strategic direction of the function within the broader business context, supported by practical and conceptual expertise in the function and related areas.

Excellent communication skills are necessary to negotiate effectively at senior levels, guiding, influencing, and convincing colleagues and external clients as needed.

The role involves managing the growth and maintenance of the existing portfolio, seeking new business opportunities, executing functional strategies, and handling staff management issues, including resource allocation within teams and projects.

Responsibilities:
  1. Part of the Global Product Team, owning product strategy, positioning, business management, sales enablement, and partnership development.
  2. Set and achieve sales pipeline goals in collaboration with Sales and Product Heads.
  3. Develop and execute a pipeline of client prospects to foster business growth.
  4. Manage key business drivers such as calling plans, deal closures, customer satisfaction, etc.
  5. Build relationships with key clients and partners to identify new opportunities.
  6. Monitor customer needs, market trends, and economic factors to identify opportunities and threats.
  7. Coordinate internally for timely and flawless execution of client mandates.
  8. Leverage marketing strategies such as partnerships, conferences, and advisory boards.
  9. Ensure quality in client interactions, proposals, and presentations.
  10. Develop sales talent through coaching, training, and attracting top talent.
  11. Collaborate with control functions like Legal, Compliance, Risk, Audit, and Finance to ensure proper governance.
  12. Promote a culture of responsible finance, good governance, expense discipline, and ethics.
  13. Assess risk/reward of transactions and ensure team members understand and adhere to risk considerations.
  14. Comply with Citi's Code of Conduct and supervision policies, ensuring team awareness and adherence.
  15. Evaluate risks in business decisions, safeguarding the firm's reputation and assets, and escalate issues as needed.
Qualifications:
  1. 15+ years of experience in relevant fields.
  2. Experience in formulating and implementing business strategies across corporate segments.
  3. Extensive client-facing experience.
  4. Previous management experience required.
  5. Experience with credit approval processes and risk discussions is preferred.
  6. Strong commercial and analytical skills.
  7. Disciplined with excellent communication skills.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred, along with managerial experience.
