Job description

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Early Learning & Childcare Centre Manager, this position is responsible for providing a safe and healthy physical environment and creating a learning environment that meets the needs of young children. As an active team member, you will demonstrate excellent program management skills, maintain good communication with parents, and adhere to childcare regulations mandated by Childcare Services to ensure the license is maintained.

Main Duties:
  • Create a caring, stimulating, and fun atmosphere for children by planning and implementing effective daily programs that include routines, transition times, and activities tailored to children's needs, in cooperation with other Childcare Workers.
  • Implement techniques and activities that stimulate curiosity, inventiveness, problem-solving, and communication skills using play-based, engaging methods.
  • Plan and execute a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, free play/directed activities, and individual/group activities that promote physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and sensory development appropriate for each child.
  • Facilitate understanding of other cultures and value systems through daily activities that promote anti-biased and gender-neutral learning.
  • Use positive guidance methods such as reinforcement, redirection, and positive language appropriately daily.
  • Establish realistic behavior expectations and address problem behaviors immediately without labeling the child.

You should have coursework in or knowledge of early childhood development theories, principles, and practices, along with experience working with children and excellent supervision skills. Mandatory requirements include:

  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Certified Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • Up-to-date immunizations, including medical clearance and T.B. testing
