Job description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Early Learning & Childcare Centre Manager, this position is responsible for providing a safe, healthy physical environment and creating a learning environment that meets the needs of young children. As an active team member within the centre, you will demonstrate excellent program management skills, maintain good communication with parents, and adhere to childcare regulations mandated by Childcare Services to ensure the license is maintained.

Main Duties
  1. Create a caring, stimulating, and fun atmosphere for children by:
    • Planning and implementing an effective daily program that includes routine and transition times, collaborating with other Childcare Workers.
    • Using play-based, engaging methods to stimulate children’s curiosity, inventiveness, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Balancing active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, free play/directed activities, and individual and group activities to promote physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and sensory development appropriate for each child.
    • Facilitating understanding of diverse cultures and promoting anti-biased, gender-neutral learning.
    • Applying positive guidance techniques such as reinforcement, redirection, and positive language daily.
    • Establishing realistic behavior expectations and addressing problem behaviors promptly without labeling children.
  2. Possess coursework or knowledge in early childhood development theories, principles, and practices.
  3. Have experience working with children and excellent supervision skills.
  4. Meet mandatory requirements including:
    • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
    • Certified Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check
    • Food Safe Certificate
    • Up-to-date immunizations, medical clearance, and T.B. testing
  5. Maintain strict confidentiality and be willing to sign and abide by the Teslin Early Learning & Childcare Centre Oath of Confidentiality and Code of Conduct.
  6. Willingness to complete mandatory ECD courses.
