Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role provides service to customers, sorting incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Thrift Store.
Key Accountabilities
- Willingness to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation Army
- Use a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect and empathy
- Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards,
- Implements store layout plans to attract customers including merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance,”
- Replenishes inventory levels based on Managers directions
- Processes donated household items by unloading, sorting, packing, storing and loading donated items
- Sorts donated clothing by judging the condition of the items
- Routes donated items to the appropriate destination (store distribution, recycling, rag out, trash)
- Hang and price good condition clothing,
- Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring,
- Takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc.
- Contributes to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness)
- Attends staff meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience Qualifications
The successful job applicant will have completed Public School, and/or High School.
Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements
More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including life skills, and general familiarity with customer service and cash handling.
Skills And Capabilities
- High attention and accuracy when operating Squirrel Till
- Heavy lifting: able to life up to 25 pounds regularly
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Universal precautions
Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $18.76 with a maximum of $22.51.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
