The Trusts & Estates Associate Attorney role at Borchers Cusano Trust Law, P.C. (BCTL) is a full-time, exempt position in our innovative, forward-thinking Estate Planning and Administration teams in our Medfield, MA office. The position will work on probate and trust administration, estate planning, and issues of taxation and trust accounting. The position reports to a Borchers Cusano Trust Law partner designated at the time of hire.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Draft, read, and interpret legal documents, including trust instruments, appointments, amendments, and resignations
  • Oversee preparation of probate inventories, court filings, and probate accountings
  • Produce summaries and accountings for trust beneficiaries
  • Communicate with trust and estate beneficiaries regarding distributions
  • Assist in the administration of trusts at various stages
  • Prepare a variety of estate planning documents using WealthDocx
  • Meet with clients in our TrustSupportTM program to review, refresh, and refine estate plans
  • Prepare gift tax returns and estate tax returns
  • Assist tax professionals with the preparation of fiduciary income tax returns
  • Assist in retitling assets, identifying provisions, and executing principal payments
  • Oversee real estate management of estate or trust owned properties
  • Collaborate with client advisors such as financial planners, accountants, and other attorneys
  • Supervise and delegate work to Paralegals and Legal Assistants as assigned
  • Annual billable hour requirement of 1,500 hours

Requirements:

  • 3 to 5+ years of probate and trust administration experience
  • Prior experience and interest in managing a team
  • Licensed to practice in Massachusetts, admission to other states a plus
  • In-depth understanding and appreciation of estate administration and planning process
  • Meticulous attention to detail and critical thinking are essential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Experience with WealthDocx, GEMS, and Clio legal software a plus
  • Highly organized, adaptable, focused, and able to handle multiple tasks and cases simultaneously
  • Able to work independently, under pressure, with minimal supervision
  • Notary Public a plus
  • Excellent references and background check required
  • DISC profile will be requested for final candidates

This role will be a primarily in-office position with the option to work remotely per the terms of the Firm's Hybrid Work Policy.

Job Type: Full-time, Exempt (from overtime)

Salary Range: Starting salary of $125k with an opportunity to earn $200k or more with goal-based bonuses.
