Job summary

Scotiabank is seeking a Trust Accountant to manage maintenance, reconciliation, and balancing of all daily functions within the Trust department. You will liaise with 1832 Asset Management L.P.

teams including Portfolio Administration and Fund Accounting to ensure accuracy and timely reporting. You will prepare cash movements, reconcile transactions, and post G/L entries, contributing to daily journal postings and compliance with controls in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • CPA enrolment is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word) required.
  • Experience in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare net cash movements for all funds based on transaction data.
  • Reconcile daily transactions processed by client administration.
  • Prepare G/L entries on a daily/weekly basis for accounts assigned.
  • Balance daily transactions for all funds.
  • Run daily macros to post daily journal entries to the database and QC the macro output.

Title: Trust Accountant

Purpose:

As a Trust Accountant you will manage the maintenance, reconciliation, accuracy and balancing of all daily functions within the Trust department. This role involves liaising with other departments within 1832 Asset Management L.P. including Portfolio Administration, Fund Accounting, Client Administration and Corporate Accounting.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Prepare net cash movements for all the funds based on transaction data
  • Reconcile the daily transactions processed by client administration
  • Prepare G/L entries on a daily/weekly basis for any accounts assigned
  • Balance the daily transactions for all the funds
  • Run daily macros to facilitate posting the daily journal entries prepared by members of the trust accounting team to the database from which the trial balance is obtained QC report from the macros to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Compare the summary created within a daily macro to the journal entries prepared by the members of the trust accounting team to ensure accuracy and completeness of the data that will be uploaded to the database
  • Prepare daily bank reconciliations and update the outstanding cheque lists
  • Reconcile and remit government accounts for withholding tax
  • Prepare invoices or payments for commission and trailer fees
  • Analyze various G/L accounts and follow up on outstanding items to ensure timely clearing of items
  • Facilitate manual payments to clients, custodians & FundSERV
  • Update issued manual payments and cancelled cheques into unitholder systems (IFAST, ECS & BNS) as required
  • Ensure the accuracy of daily deposits
  • Facilitate the daily reconciliation of Loss/NSF fees which are allocated to funds
  • Participate in special projects and other administrative duties as required

  • Experience in the mutual funds industry is an asset
  • Experience working with iFAST is an asset

  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
