We have several auxiliary opportunities in the Solid Waste Department involving driving and swamping on a tandem axle rear load garbage packer with a G.V.W. of 66,000 lbs. Successful candidates will work in a two-person crew, sharing truck driving and swamping duties, including collecting garbage and yard trimmings/organics, operating the lift, and packer equipment. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, inspections, washing the truck, completing work records, enforcing regulations, explaining rules to residents, and handling complaints. Additional duties may include streetscape waste collection, cart repair, and commercial operations. Work is scheduled and supervised for safety, efficiency, and service quality.
Completion of Grade 10, truck driving experience (preferably as a Truck Driver – Swamper 1), and a valid B.C. Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement. Training will be provided if needed. Applicants must hold an Unrestricted Class 5 Licence and provide a current driving abstract showing a safe record. Preference for Class 3 or Class 1 Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement.
Salary: $33.26/hour (2024 rates) plus 12% benefits, increasing to 16% after 1600 hours. Truck duties pay $35.69/hour.
