Job summary

Wheatland County is seeking a Truck Driver/Equipment Operator to join the Public Works Team. Position Summary:

As a member of the Public Works Team, the Truck Driver/Equipment Operator operates the water truck, mulcher, and other heavy equipment, ensuring that roadways are accessible, safe and in good condition.

The Truck Driver/Equipment Operator may provide back-up support within the Public Works Operations as required.

Responsibilities

  • Haul and apply water to roads to provide dust control.
  • Work with the Reclamation Grader Operator to mulch and repair road surfaces.
  • Be a part of the on-call highway plow rotation during the winter months.
  • Report any dangerous or unsafe road conditions.
  • Perform all daily safety and maintenance checks.
  • Perform general care and maintenance of all equipment being used; notify the Foreman of any repairs required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and secure work area.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable Wheatland County policies and bylaws.
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S including attendance at safety meetings, being properly trained in OH&S related topics, and ensuring work is completed in a safe manner.
  • Appropriately, and in a timely manner complete administrative tasks when required.
  • Relate to and communicate with co-workers, management, customers and vendors sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Perform tasks, consistent with the position, including special projects / assignments, as may be required on an ad hoc basis.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with heavy equipment including equipment maintenance and storage procedures
  • Experience and knowledge of road construction, snow removal and maintenance

Working Conditions:

  • (Approximately) April – November (Summer Season) – Monday to Friday; 50 regular hours/week;
  • (Approximately) December – March (Winter Season) – Monday to Friday; 40 regular hours/week;
  • Standby hours for snow plowing on weekends between October to April may be required.
