Job description

The Shaw Group is one of Eastern Canada's leading natural resource manufacturers and community developers. We are currently looking for Class 1 Drivers for our Lantz and Dartmouth, NS operations. The successful candidate will be accountable, reliable and safety conscious.

Qualifications

1. Valid Class I Driver's License and a clean driver's abstract.
2. A safety conscious, reliable and positive teamwork attitude.
3. Minimum of two (2) years' experience driving.
4. Strong work ethic and ability to work independently.
5. Strong interpersonal skills, including customer service skills.
6. Willingness to participate in our Drug & Alcohol Testing program.
7. Grade XII or equivalent.
8. Boom certification and/or experience with a hitchhiker is nice to have but not required.
9. English fluency.

Responsibilities

1. The flatbed transportation of brick, concrete and palletized products in a safe and efficient manner, throughout Atlantic Canada.
2. While the majority of work is within Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, as a driver for Shaw Brick, you must be willing to make periodic trips to Newfoundland, Ontario or Quebec as required.
3. Comply with legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods and weights and dimensions.
4. Check vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
5. Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
6. Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
7. Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook.
8. Communicate effectively with the public, customers, and co-workers.
9. Assist in loading and unloading of tractor.
10. Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure.
11. Deliver product and proper paperwork in a courteous and timely manner.
12. Other duties as required e.g. operating a boom truck or hitchhiker (if required, training will be provided).
