The Engineering Department is seeking qualified, hard-working and team-oriented person to join as auxiliary Truck Driver 1. This is skilled, routine truck driving work involving operation of vehicles which may vary in type, power, and size. Responsibilities include loading, transporting, and unloading personnel, materials, tools, and equipment under varying traffic and field conditions in a skillful and safe manner. The role also involves cleaning, checking, performing light servicing on the vehicle daily, and maintaining simple records and work reports. Additionally, a Truck Driver 1 assists in routine construction and maintenance tasks assigned by a Foreman.
Qualifications include up to high school graduation, thorough knowledge of safe operation rules and precautions to avoid accidents when operating light to medium weight vehicles and auxiliary equipment. Working knowledge of proper methods used in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment and materials is required. Ability to operate light or medium-sized vehicles safely under difficult driving conditions, write simple records and reports, and perform routine construction and maintenance tasks is necessary. Mechanical aptitude is also desirable. A valid Driver’s License for British Columbia and a clean driver’s abstract are required.
Pay Rate: $34.37 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
Hours of Work: This auxiliary position depends on operational requirements, scheduled by the department as needed. The current schedule is 80 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday, from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
