Job summary

The City of Kawartha Lakes is seeking a skilled Truck and Coach Technician (310T) to inspect, service, repair, and diagnose a range of engines and heavy-duty vehicles. employees will work 40 hours per week in Fleet Services with travel throughout Kawartha Lakes.

Candidates must hold a 310T license, have at least 1 year of licensed technician experience, and have or obtain required licences. A $500 tool allowance is provided as part of the package.

Qualifications

• Secondary School Diploma.
• 310T Truck and Coach Technician License.
• At least 1 year of work experience as a licensed Truck and Coach Technician.
• Ability to obtain Emission Licence/Propane Licence or other licences as required.
• Ontario Class D Driver’s Licence with Z endorsement.
• Knowledge of OHSA/WHMIS and safe shop practices.
• Criminal Record Check required upon conditional offer.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, maintain, and repair engines, transmissions, transaxles, and differentials and related systems.
• Install emergency lighting and accessories and diagnose vehicle systems.
• Operate City equipment for testing and diagnosing repairs.
• Maintain shop equipment and tools and ensure safety compliance.
• Support customer service objectives and work with team to meet deadlines.

Hours Permanent, full-time. Normal Working Hours are 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday

OtherAbility to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour day a week basis; rotational on-call, carrying pager/cell; call-in/overtime as operations require, $500 tool allowance.

Job Description

• Inspect, service, maintain, and repair engines, transmissions, transaxles, and differentials, fuel injected and carbureted fuel systems and related emission components,machine brake systems and components and electrical circuits
• Install emergency lighting,sound equipment, and install additional accessories as required perform inspection and repair of automotive, light truck, heavy-duty truck, and light and heavy off road equipment suspensions and components, hydraulic systems and components
• Diagnosis and repair of equipment’s on board computer management systems
• Ability to operate various City owned equipment for the purpose of testing and diagnosing repairs
• Operate and maintain shop equipment and machine tools such as pedestal grinders, power hacksaws, drill presses, battery and charging system testers, emission analyzers, welding and cutting equipment, and other common automotive shop equipment
• Observe and comply with toxic waste and hazardous material handling and disposal as set forth by local, and federal health agencies
• Work safely in compliance with safe work practices in keeping with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, corporate policy, procedures and applicable legislation
• Perform all duties applying customer service techniques in support of departmental objectives
• Perform other related duties as assigned .

Skills/Education Required

• Secondary School Diploma
• Possess and maintain a 310T Truck and Coach Technician License
• At least one (1) year of work experience as a licensed Truck and Coach Technician
• Ability to obtain Emission Control Licence, Propane Licence, or other Licence, as may be required in performance of job functions
• Ability to exert up to 22.2 kg (50 lbs) of force occasionally, and/or up to 8.9 kg (20 lbs) of force frequently, and/or up to 4.4 kg (10 lbs) of force constantly to move objects
  
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and safe work practices in a mechanic-shop environment
• Must have legible and accurate writing ability
• Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions
• Ability to work independently or as an effective member of a team
• Effective oral communication and strong interpersonal skills to deal with members of the public, council, and all levels of staff
• Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management
• Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines
• Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “D” Driver’s Licence with “Z” endorsement and acceptable driving record
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
• Upon a conditional offer of employment, an acceptable Criminal Record Check will be required.
