Job summary

LJB Canada, Inc. is seeking a qualified Project Engineer / Trenchless Engineer to work full-time on tunnel and trenchless projects in Canada. The candidate should bring 3–6 years of experience across design and construction, with strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities include delivering technical plans and calculations, preparing reports, and communicating with owners and contractors. This is a growth-focused role with variety in field and office work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, geological/geotechnical, or related field.
• 3–6 years of tunnel and trenchless project experience in planning, design, and construction.
• Thorough knowledge of relevant codes, operations, processes, and trends.

• Produce technical deliverables according to client specifications.
• Prepare construction plans and trenchless/structural/geotechnical calculations and design reports.
• Communicate technical information clearly in meetings with owners, contractors and stakeholders.
• Prepare engineering calculations including geotechnical and structural analyses for tunnel and trenchless design.
• Produce technical reports and geotechnical data reports (GDRs) and GBRs.
• Develop design parameters from geotechnical reports and project documents.
• Increase company visibility through regional initiatives and professional associations.
• Field assignments may include shift, night, and weekend work; office work on weekdays.

LJB Canada, Inc. is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Project Engineer / Trenchless Engineer role. The successful candidate will have 3 to 6 years working on relevant tunnel, and trenchless projects in Canada, preferably including both design and construction roles and will possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve. Compensation

$78,000 - $116,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Trenchless Engineer / Project Engineer Essential Functions

• Produce technical deliverables according to client specifications.
• Prepare construction plans and specifications, trenchless/structural/geotechnical calculations and design reports, and technical memoranda with appropriate guidance.
• Communicate technical and non-technical information in a concise, professional manner, including participation in technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Produce engineering calculations including geotechnical and structural calculations as required in support of tunnel and trenchless design including support of excavation and adherence to all local and national codes of practice.
• Prepare technical reports including technical memoranda, letters, and reports, as well as geotechnical data reports (GDRs) and geotechnical baseline reports (GBRs).
• Complete engineering associated with tunnel and trenchless design including development of design parameters from geotechnical reports and project documents.
• Increase LJB’s visibility in the industry by participating in regional initiatives, conferences, committees, and community associations, including any identified professional association activities.
• Field based assignments will include shift work, weekday, night, and weekend work. Office based assignments will require a standard weekday business hours work schedule.

Required Qualifications

• 3-6 years of relevant project experience in the planning, design, and construction of a variety of tunnel and trenchless projects.
• Thorough knowledge of relevant technical codes, operations, processes, and trends.

TRENCHLESS ENGINEER / PROJECT ENGINEER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study required (civil, structural, geological/geotechnical, or related field – e.g., mechanical).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in relevant area of study required (civil, structural, geological/geotechnical, or related field – e.g., mechanical).

Core Skills

• Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication skills and technical writing skills.
• Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, interact with other staff, collaborate with other disciplines, and mentor junior staff.
