Tree Farm Assistant Manager

Now hiring an Assistant Tree Farm Manager.

Our Tree Farm is located in Hamilton, Ontario, near African Lion Safari.

Responsibilities:

1. Maintaining the care of plants, flowers, and trees
2. Assist with training and directing of the staff
3. Protect nursery plants from diseases, weeds, insects, and pests
4. Maintain clean work areas
5. Able to work either outdoors or indoors – indoors might be at a desk completing paperwork or on the phone, outdoors involves hands-on, physical exertion
6. Organize and prepare trees and plants for shipping or pick-up
7. Able to handle a fast-paced, high-pressure environment especially during peak season
8. Able to work with a diverse workforce
9. Able to handle changes in temperature and humidity
10. Ensure all operating procedures are followed

Requirements:

1. Degree in horticulture or a related field
2. Willingness to learn and apply that knowledge
3. Valid G driver’s license with a clean abstract, must provide own transportation
4. Fluent English speaking and writing is required
5. Ability to speak Spanish is an asset
6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
7. Knowledge of plant propagation and cultivation
8. Experienced in greenhouse growing techniques
9. Familiarity with pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, watering, and planting procedures
10. Knowledge of various plants and plant names
11. Must be professional, dependable, organized, and have attention to detail
12. Must have a great work ethic, be a team player, and have an entrepreneurial drive
13. Must be able to handle repetitive tasks such as bending, sitting, crouching, and standing for long periods
14. Ability to work extended hours as required including weekends
15. Able to use Microsoft Office software such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
