Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the Treatment Support Worker role is to provide direct support to children and young adults with being successful in their day-to-day activities and learn how to live independently or with a healthy dependency with designated care providers.

The Treatment Support Worker will provide this support by working as part of a service team that identifies client needs and implements individualized treatment plans for the child or young adult. This role will work with a network of Foster Parents and Resource Workers within the agency.

This role supports the organization’s ongoing commitment to support children in foster care and young adults within the adult service sector to ultimately ensure the client is the best that they can be.

An excellent Treatment Support Worker will be a highly organized, team player, who enjoys working with children and being a positive role model for young adults, leading by example with a positive attitude. The person in this role will also have excellent skills in navigating conflict, overcoming client behavioural obstacles, and supporting clients in crisis when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Direct Support Service to Clients:

  • Work with the service team including Resource Workers and Foster Parents to identify assigned clients needs and goals.
  • Corresponding with Resource Workers and Foster Parents providing regular updates to the team.
  • Provide one on one support to clients in the foster home or in the community.
  • Advocate on client’s behalf and facilitate self-advocacy to community supports and partners.
  • Based on client’s abilities, teach independence in daily living tasks including meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, and community outings.
  • Teach healthy dependence for clients with ASD, FASD, developmental disabilities, and/or other various behavioral and mental health diagnosis.
  • Document and maintain records including submitting Treatment Support Worker Reports.
  • Administer medication and attend medical appointments as required.
  • Provide transportation and support for clients to community outings and appointments as required.
  • Nonviolent crisis intervention as required.

Direct Support Service in Caithkin Unique Foster Home:

  • Follow instructions as noted on the house calendar with client appointments and other deadlines.
  • Assist with proper maintenance of weekly/monthly chore schedules for both clients and staff.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including medical reports, incident reports, chore charts, medication log, inventory.
  • Individual will be able to engage the clients, be creative and inventive within their role as TSW.

Direct Support Service in Foster Homes and Community:

  • Provide day to day support to clients within the foster home or in the community including supervision, programming, and coaching.
  • Work with Resource Worker and Foster Parent to provide programming with learning opportunities while utilizing agency and community resources.

Administration:

  • Complete documentation as required, including House Logs and Treatment Support Worker Reports.
  • Confirm hours in the online scheduler for pay each week.
  • Submit mileage reports with details of each drive weekly.

Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Child and Youth Worker Diploma, SSW Diploma, DSW Diploma or other equivalent diploma.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a valid Insurance License in the province of Ontario.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Standard First Aid Certification.
  • Must have at minimum of 6 months’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or behvioural diagnosis.
  • Medical administration experience.

Working Conditions

  • Rotating shift work is required, no set schedule
  • 12 hour shifts may be required
  • Shifts will include any time of day, any day of the week
  • Overtime may be required
  • Using personal vehicle for client transportation is required
