Job description

The Opportunity:

BluMetric is looking for full time Water / Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator who will be responsible for the operation of various filtering and chemical treatment processes and maintaining the water and wastewater treatment plant and facilities in accordance with federal, provincial / territorial, and municipal legislation, policies, and standards. The candidates will also be responsible for trouble shooting and adjusting the Wastewater Treatment processes as required. This is a great opportunity to join an experienced team, working on a large-scale project in Yellowknife.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor computerized control systems and related equipment in chemical dosing and reactor tanks and water filtration clarifier to regulate the treatment and distribution of mine effluent.
  • Complete daily operations monitoring sheets, including parameters to be measured and pH (typical values are between 6.5 and 9), turbidity, and flow.
  • Consistent and accurate operation of chemical dosing systems, and proper performance of clarification and filtration equipment.
  • Regular systems check to ensure equipment is working correctly and accurately.
  • Collect daily regulatory samples of effluent, employing analysis standards to ensure accurate samples are taken, and submitting to accredited lab for verification that treated water meets strict environmental standards.
  • Communicate with supervisors, coworkers, other employees and upper management regarding operations, plant conditions and other essential information.
  • Collaborate with upper management to determine the best practices, equipment, upgrades and other operational aspects to contribute to ecologically friendly, cost-effective impacts of the facility’s water treatment.
  • Completing daily checklists and forms tracking operations at the water treatment plant.
  • Work will be conducted at a mine site near Yellowknife.
  • Work rotation will be 4 days on 4 days off 12 hour shifts 24 hours per day. Weekends and nightshift are included in the operator’s responsibilities.

Key Qualifications, Education, and Skills:

  • Minimum 2 Years of water treatment experience or similar transferable experience. Maintenance and operation experience related to Pumps, piping, mixers and other water and wastewater treatment equipment (Hands on experience is an asset).
  • Graduate from post-secondary training course or diploma in a related field is an asset.
  • Experience with Indigenous/First Nations is an asset.
  • Experience working on a mine site is an asset.
  • Must be willing to do shiftwork (weekends and evenings included).
  • A valid class 5 drivers license (may be asked to provide a drivers abstract (3 years).

Equivalency: Candidates with 2–5 years of plant operations experience in the mining or oil sectors may be considered. This includes experience in mineral processing plants, crusher plant operations, or other industrial systems involving pumps, tanks, and chemical treatment processes. Specific consideration will be given to applicants with operational experience in diamond mines or other remote industrial facilities, where routine systems monitoring, equipment troubleshooting, and hands-on mechanical work are required. General plant operations experience involving process monitoring, control systems, or fluid treatment will also be recognized as qualifying experience.
