Job summary

EQ Bank is seeking a Treasury Data Analyst to support hedge accounting, asset pricing models, and collateral management. You will leverage Excel VBA and SQL to extract, validate, and report data for multiple Treasury functions, including risk management and regulatory reporting.

The role offers hybrid work with in-office time at 2200-25 Ontario Street, Toronto, and opportunities to advance within a top FinTech Challenger Bank.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance engineering, math, computer science, or related field.
  • At least 1 year of work experience related to financial models, preferably with development responsibility.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel VBA and SQL; coding experience is a plus.
  • CFA designation or candidacy would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Hedge Accounting (30%): support hedge accounting activities and risk management processes.
  • Asset Pricing Model Support (30%): assist mortgage and pricing model support and documentation.
  • Collateral Management (20%): monitor margin calls and improve collateral reporting processes.
  • Other Departmental Support (20%): prepare data for ALCO/Board reporting and ad-hoc analyses.

The Work

The incumbent is responsible for data management (extraction/validation/reporting) to support several key Treasury functions, including hedge accounting activities, derivative valuations, and collateral management. The incumbent will also be involved in asset pricing model maintenance and other ad‑hoc projects.

The role is in the Treasury group. Equitable Bank’s Treasury group is responsible for directly managing numerous risks within the bank, including the Bank’s funding risk, liquidity risk, interest rate risk, market risk and pricing risk. Treasury partners with businesses to ensure all risks are managed and works closely with finance to ensure activities are appropriately reflected in financial statements. Treasury staff have opportunities for exposure to a variety of business units across the bank and to have an impact on the Bank’s performance.

The Core Responsibilities
  1. Hedge Accounting (30%) This function supports the management of the Bank’s interest rate risk
    • Support Treasury’s hedge accounting activities
      • Strategy: This includes development of new hedge accounting strategies (in conjunction with Accounting team)
      • Model Development: Develop hedge accounting models and work with the Analytics team for system migration
      • Pre-trade: Support trade desk by identifying assets or liabilities available for hedge accounting designations
      • Post-trade: Prepare initial hedge accounting documentation and investigate any issues, and explain hedge accounting inefficiency
    • Support hedging activities related to compensation liabilities
  2. Asset Pricing Model Support (30%) This function supports Bank’s mortgage pricing activities
    • Provide user support for various pricing models for SFR and Commercial
    • Manage assumption review/update processes
    • Improve the model documentation and reporting
    • Manage the ROE pricing application migration
  3. Collateral Management (20%) This function supports the management of the Bank’s margin positions
    • Monitor derivative portfolio valuation and validate counterparties’ margin calls
    • Improve margin call process (i.e. automate the data extraction)
    • Manage collateral process for Equitable Bank. Interact with Concentra for collateral management
    • Manage various collateral reports (internal and regulatory)
  4. Other Departmental Support (20%) This function supports the financial reporting process, OSFI reporting and management reporting
    • Prepare data for ALCO and Board reporting
    • Prepare other quarter‑end reports
    • Provide support on ad‑hoc analysis

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance engineering, math, computer science, or related field;
  • At least 1 year of work experience related to financial models, preferably with development responsibility;
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel VBA and SQL, prior coding experience would be an asset;
  • CFA designation or candidate would be an asset.
  • Understanding of accounting principles;
  • Keen interest in financial markets with a strong desire/ability to learn new concepts;
