Job summary

Dilico Anishinabek Family Care in Thunder Bay, ON is seeking a Child & Youth Care Worker to support the developmental, treatment, and psycho-social needs of children, youth, and families through assessment and therapeutic interventions. You will coordinate services from intake to discharge, work with a multi-disciplinary team, and apply trauma-informed, culturally safe approaches.

A minimum HB SW or related degree and two years' experience with Indigenous communities are preferred; local travel

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years' experience working with children and youth facing emotional, behavioural, developmental, or mental health challenges.
• Experience delivering individual and group programming, behavioural support, and crisis intervention.
• Experience in Indigenous organization or community context preferred.
• Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Willingness to travel within Thunder Bay District; valid G driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
• First Aid/CPR recommended.
• Ability to complete and maintain certifications such as CANS.

Responsibilities

• Understand child and youth development, mental health and family systems.
• Apply trauma-informed, culturally safe, and strength-based approaches.
• Provide behavioural support, crisis de-escalation, and safety planning.
• Coordinate delivery of integrated services from initial assessment through discharge.
• Advocate for Aboriginal children, adolescents and families within the community.
• Maintain confidentiality and work within agency policies and procedures.
• Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team and communicate effectively.
