Job description

The City is seeking a Transportation Technologist to join our team!

Job Status: Full-time, Temporary (35 hrs/week) for up to 16 months

Division: Engineering & Operations

Department: Development and Transportation

Union: CUPE 3690

Closing Date: August 10, 2025

The Role

Under the direction of the Manager, Development & Transportation, this position is responsible for executing the municipal crossing guard program, maintaining traffic, regulatory, warning, and information signs, street name signs, construction signs, etc. Additionally, it involves coordinating the traffic monitoring program, including installation, maintenance, data collection, and analysis of traffic and parking surveys, as well as inspection of pavement marking activities.

Qualifications
  • Three (3) year diploma/degree in Transportation Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Technologist with a concentration in Transportation Engineering, or related field
  • Two (2) years of related work experience
  • Valid G license with an acceptable abstract according to City guidelines
  • Note: An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
The Candidate

The successful candidate should possess the following experience, knowledge, and competencies:

  • Knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals, the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, and other relevant legislation, acts, and regulations
  • Effective communication skills with diverse audiences, including responding to inquiries, community education, engagement, and traffic project coordination
  • Ability to conduct investigations
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and specifications related to traffic engineering
  • Knowledge and experience with Traffic Technology, AutoCAD, and SYNCHRO software
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications
