The objective of this position is to exceed the customer’s expectation of service by assuring the safe transportation and delivery of food to customer locations, following company policies and procedures. Responsibilities include ensuring shipment of temperature-controlled and undamaged products, proper count of goods at customer locations, and maintaining FIFO inventory levels. The role also involves management of Drivers and Helpers.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in transportation operations with a successful track record in supervisory or leadership roles.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
- Ability to influence employees and foster a positive team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in training and operational processes.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), routing software, and related technologies.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, GPS, and scanning tools.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities; able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to follow all safety protocols and maintain compliance with transportation regulations.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in logistics, transportation management, business administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Minimum of 2 years of verifiable commercial driving experience within the last 3 years.
- A valid driver’s license and current DOT medical card are required.
- No CDL accidents in the past 36 months.
- No major violations, suspensions, or performance-related suspensions in the past 36 months.
- No more than two minor moving violations or one accident in the past 36 months.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work overnight shifts, including Friday and Sunday nights.
- Ability to lift 25/50/80 pounds regularly.
- Capable of responding quickly to sounds and navigating uneven terrain or confined spaces.
- Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations, including driving safely at night.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate efficient transportation routes, assign drivers and vehicles, dispatch, and monitor progress during shift hours, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations.
- Oversee fleet maintenance, scheduling repairs and inspections to ensure safety and minimize downtime.
- Monitor operational metrics like fuel consumption and vehicle utilization to optimize performance.
- Manage transportation equipment and communicate with vendors regarding vehicle needs and issues.
- Supervise transportation staff, including drivers, loaders, and dispatchers.
- Conduct driver training on safe driving, route navigation, customer service, and company standards.
- Onboard and maintain training for new and existing CDL drivers.
- Facilitate ongoing safety training and conduct safety inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Investigate accidents and incidents; implement corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance with DOT regulations and safety standards.
- Promote a safety culture and participate in safety committees.
- Address transportation-related inquiries from stores, customers, and vendors; resolve customer complaints.
- Ensure high customer satisfaction through reliable service.
- Monitor KPIs and generate reports to support data-driven decisions.
- Manage E-POD scanning and Drive Smart systems during routes.
- Debrief drivers upon return and perform related administrative tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned, with schedule flexibility to meet customer and DOT requirements.
Accountabilities:
- Operate company vehicles safely and deliver products on schedule.
- Load, unload, and organize products according to safety and customer specifications.
- Ensure inventory matches delivery documentation and follow designated routes.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and maintain accurate records.
- Comply with all regulations and safety standards.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and safety conditions.
- Support audits and inspections with proper documentation.
- Complete shift paperwork and support emergency route coverage.
