DUTIES:
Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Planning & Design, this position will be responsible for reviewing planning/development proposals, preparing comments, attending meetings as required, and negotiating with developers on behalf of Transportation Planning to achieve policy objectives, safe design, and protection of City transportation facilities including rezoning, Official Plan Amendment, Plan of Subdivision, Part Lot Control, Site Plan Control, Condominium Conversion, Consent Applications, and Minor Variance Applications (Committee of Adjustment). Responsibilities include preparing draft responses to applications and maintaining appropriate background files; representing Public Works at various meetings to provide technical input and expertise, including the Ontario Municipal Board and Site Plan Control Committee; providing design guidelines for roadway improvements related to all developments; negotiating cost sharing for roadway improvements; reviewing and commenting on Liquor License applications; representing Transportation Planning at Planning Advisory Committee and Council meetings; and reviewing traffic impact study analysis including trip generation, distribution, and assignments for various development applications. The role also involves assisting the Policy Analyst in undertaking policy reviews, creating mapping and presentation materials, data collection, and participation at public meetings. Additional duties include performing transportation analysis using transportation analysis software; reviewing and commenting on Sign By-Law amendments; assisting in the preparation and implementation of transportation planning field surveys and studies; assisting and training others in traffic engineering surveys and studies; assisting in undertaking Environmental Assessments; performing manual turning moving counts; assisting in the review of oversized loads; and assisting the Traffic Technician in reviewing traffic detour routes in cooperation with other departments, utilities, and contractors. The position requires receiving, sorting, analyzing, and preparing material for entry relating to the collision database, inputting data for motor vehicle accident reports, maintaining motor vehicle accident files, and preparing accident statistics. The individual will handle general inquiries and complaints from the public and City Council, preparing responses and/or reports as required, including processing department Service Requests as assigned. Site visits and attendance at meetings involving other Service Areas and/or the public on behalf of the department are also required. Maintaining amiable relations with co-workers and the public is essential. Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program will also be performed, along with other related duties as required.
