Your impact

We are looking for an enthusiastic, Transportation Functional Designer who thrives on providing innovative mobility solutions. You’ll be working on exciting transportation projects for our public sector clients across Canada. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Lead or contribute to transportation/transit conceptual and functional design projects, including project scoping.
  2. Coordinate with local authorities, transit agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project alignment.
  3. Generate alternative design options and assess their costs and benefits.
  4. Facilitate discussions with agency stakeholders on design tradeoffs for multimodal users.
  5. Develop sketch-level concepts and oversee CAD designers' work.
  6. Provide QA/QC in accordance with applicable guidelines and standards.
  7. Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities and challenges.
  8. Represent Jacobs at industry events such as conferences and webinars.
  9. Build and maintain client relationships, positioning Jacobs for new work through early proposal development.

We value collaboration and believe in-person interactions are vital for our culture and client delivery. Our hybrid working policy empowers employees to split their workweek between offices/projects and remote locations to deliver their best work.

Here's what you'll need
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation.
  2. Licensed P.Eng. or the ability to secure this designation within 6 months.
  3. 10+ years of relevant transportation experience in public or private sectors.
  4. Experience in planning, designing, and managing various transportation projects, including multi-modal streets and intersections accommodating pedestrians, bicycles, micromobility, transit, and trucks.
  5. Experience in project evaluation methods such as MAE, business case development, and benefit-cost analysis.
  6. Strong communication, time management, and report-writing skills in a collaborative environment, with the ability to work independently.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  8. Knowledge of road safety concepts and collision modification factors for design improvements.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
  1. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Microstation, AutoTURN, Bluebeam, and Projectwise.
  2. Experience across the project lifecycle: preliminary, conceptual, functional, detailed, and O&M.
  3. Familiarity with guidelines and standards from AT, BC MOTT, MTO, etc.
  4. Experience with transportation project development processes in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario.
  5. Advanced technical writing skills and data visualization abilities.
  6. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  7. Empathy, self-awareness, and a deliberate approach to career development.
  8. A passion for mentoring and empowering staff.
  9. Existing strong client relationships and the ability to foster new ones.
